Dinner at Tess' House!

Friday night after we played Xavier in the tournament at Lee University, Tess' family had our whole team over for a chili dinner. All the girls LOVE when someones parents cook for us, and this time was no different. Everytime we go to someones house for dinner, the families are so welcoming which shows the awesome support that we recieve from the friends and families of our Lady Vikings! Tess' aunt, Tonya, cooked and all the girls sat around and ate and watched Sister Act. It was so nice to be able to just relax around a house for an hour or so after a tough game. The dogs were also a huge hit! I think everyone misses their own dogs from home so they all flock when they see one! Luckily there were plenty to go around at the Phillips home! Thank you so much to all of Tess' family that helped put our wonderful dinner together!

Picture Day

We took a day off of practice this Sunday and took the opportunity to take some team pictures with the beautiful Berry landscape as the Fall colors are coming out. They thought it would be cute to dress in white shirts and jeans and it made for some outstanding pictures. There were plenty of laughs and smiles to go around as we all had yet another great time together off the court.

Happy Halloween!

This year since Halloween was on a Friday night, most of the girls decided to dress up and head over to the guys game. We met and ate at Schroeder's in Armuchee. Then the men's team played at 8PM so we headed over there. We had a witch, a bumble-bee, a fairy, 2 devils, a crash-test dummy, 2 girls from the 80's, Robin Hood, a diva, a lion, a mummy, and a hillbilly named Stella. We met up with our coaches so we could see Anna Norton dressed up as a cat, but she was a little scared of us! We had a great time, and some even better pictures!

Everyone who dressed up for the Men's game

The cutest little insects you've ever seen!

After the game, some of us went to Sonic and had a dance party in the parking lot.

Coaching Clinic at Buford High School- Sept. 12-13

On Friday September 12, our team left to go to Buford, Georgia for a coaching clinic at the local high school. We had practice then went to Brittany Howes's house for a home cooked meal by her parents! The spaghetti was so good and everyone always enjoys just being able to hang out with each other for a while. Coach Norton is from Gwinnett and so are 3 of our girls, so everyone spread out amongst these houses to sleep. We got to Buford High School at about 9:30 the next morning and began our long day at the coaching clinic. There were lots of big names there and our girls got to demonstrate all of their drills and plays for the local high school coaches. Machelle Joseph from Georgia Tech, Nell Fortner from Auburn, Andy Landers from UGA, Amanda Butler from Florida, and Susie Gardner also from Florida were the visiting coaches. They were super nice to all of our girls and our coaches got some great ideas from each of them. Our girls had a great time getting to meet all of these big time coaches and got their picture made with a few of them. After a long day, everyone was tired and ready to get back home to Rome.

Team Retreat: July 24-27

Our team came in from all over for our annual team retreat. This year we had a lock-in at our new Cage Center with lots of fun activities over the course of the entire weekend. The first night everyone got settled in and after we played pick-up, we had a big game of Pictionary. That was a pretty good time! Everyone laughed a whole lot!! We played a lot more pick-up and had some more great times over the next few days. Our coaches played some motivational videos for us and we got together to set some team goals for the season. Friday night we went down to Atlanta and went to Atlantic Station and to the Atlanta Dream game. On the way down we picked up our last player, Brittany Coughlan who was flying in from Maryland. Everyone had a great time and it was the first time a lot of the girls had been to a WNBA game! Saturday we played some more pick-up and in the afternoon, the coaches surprised us with a water balloon fight! They made it seem like everyone was going out to the fields for conditioning, but they had big buckets waiting on us. It had also just rained really hard so there were some awesome sliding puddles that everyone got in after we had used up all of the water balloons. On Saturday we also had some team building activities in the gym and some "share time" that helps all of us to get to know one another. Sunday was our last day and we got up and went to Coach Norton's church as a team to end our amazing team-building weekend. Our retreat is always a great time for everyone to get to know one another more and to help welcome our new players. Everyone had a great time and were ready to come back up to school in a few weeks and get started with our season!
